Democrats Defending Democracy? More Like Liberals Being Terrorists.
Written by: Jennifer Bash
When I first registered to vote at 45 (yes, fashionably late to the civic duty party), I checked the box for “Independent.” Not because I was trying to be edgy—but because I genuinely didn’t know where I fit. My first vote ever? Trump in 2016. Why? Because Hillary Clinton felt like a walking press release dipped in plastic. It was more gut instinct than policy deep dive, but that was my entry point into politics.
Fast-forward eight years: now I’m neck-deep in it—writing this newsletter, hosting a podcast (coming back soon, I promise), and reading more political articles than a sane person should. You’d think I’d have everything figured out by now. But if I’m being honest?
I’m still confused. Especially about the Democratic Party
Identity Crisis, Much?
Let’s talk about it—the Democratic Party is going through a full-blown political puberty. They’re moody, inconsistent, say one thing and do another, and they keep trying on new identities like they’re standing in the fitting room of American politics yelling, “Do I look progressive in this?”
One minute they’re for the working class. Next minute they’re marching for open borders while lecturing you about pronouns and climate guilt. They used to be anti-war, now they fund proxy wars. They scream “protect democracy!” while silencing opposition and controlling speech. It’s giving gaslight, gatekeeper, government overreach.
Back when I asked Jamie on our podcast to explain the difference between Republicans and Democrats, it was a genuine question. I wasn’t trying to tee him up—I really didn’t know. Especially after this past week, I can’t help but question whether the left still knows what they stand for.
Let’s take a quick, disturbing tour of recent events:
A healthcare CEO was murdered.
Two Israeli diplomats—murdered.
A Minnesota state rep, shot and killed.
Tesla dealerships firebombed.
Jewish demonstrators attacked with fire.
L.A. torched by riots.
And the “No King” protests where American cities were filled with people waving foreign flags—yes, flags from countries they refuse to return to—while demanding that our country bend, break, and remake itself to suit their ideals. They don’t want to go back to the nations they’re so proudly representing; they want to turn this one into a version of it, on our dime and under our laws. Make that make sense.
These aren’t fringe events. These are coordinated, ideological attacks—often carried out or excused by people who claim to be the defenders of “democracy,” “tolerance,” and “peace.”
What Is Democracy?
Democracy means you have a voice, the power to vote, and the right to ask questions without being tackled by the FBI or banned from social media. But to today’s left, democracy now means: “Let us win or you’re a threat to the Republic.” What Democrats Say They Stand For
Here’s the official branding:
Equity and inclusion
Human rights and civil liberties
Affordable healthcare for all
A clean environment and climate justice
Government transparency
Justice reform and protecting marginalized groups
Defending democracy and voting rights
Sounds great, right? In theory, these are values most decent people support. But here’s the part that makes my head spin:
What They Actually Do (Since Obama)
1. Equity for All… Unless You’re Conservative
Conservative students are silenced.
Christian-owned businesses? Targeted.
Anyone who challenges woke doctrine? Canceled—immediately.
2. Human Rights... Except for the Unborn, Dissenters, or the Unpopular
Biden DOJ went after parents at school board meetings.
COVID mandates overruled basic bodily autonomy.
Meanwhile, late-term abortion is celebrated as empowerment.
3. Healthcare for All... But Not Transparency
Obamacare passed on lies: “Keep your doctor” anyone?
Premiums skyrocketed for the middle class.
4. Climate Justice... Unless You’re a Democrat Celebrity
John Kerry, Al Gore, and Hollywood fly private jets to climate summits while lecturing you about your gas stove.
5. Government Transparency... Like Hunter’s Laptop?
Suppressed. Buried. Discredited. Later verified—no apologies.
Democrats and Big Tech coordinated to silence it before the 2020 election.
6. Justice Reform... Unless It Involves Themselves
Hillary Clinton: Deleted 33,000 emails under subpoena—nothing.
Biden: Classified documents in a garage—shrug.
Trump: Raided, indicted, investigated non-stop.
7. Defending Democracy... By Redefining It
Attempted to federalize elections.
Wanted to pack the Supreme Court.
Pushed censorship of opposing views on social media.
Labeled political opponents “threats to democracy.”
8. Voting Rights... Unless You Vote the ‘Wrong’ Way
They claim to protect voting rights—but only when the results go their way.
Oppose voter ID laws (because showing ID is now “oppression”).
Support non-citizens voting in local elections.
And if you question an election? You’re branded an “insurrectionist.”
Unless it’s 2016—then it was just “brave resistance.”
This Isn’t Just Politics. It’s Personal
It’s not about red vs. blue anymore. It’s about who got crushed while the elites played dress-up with democracy.
Middle-class families paid more for gas, groceries, and housing—while the White House told us the economy was “strong.”
Small business owners were buried in taxes and regulations, while corporate donors cozied up to politicians and got bailouts.
Parents were called domestic terrorists for questioning school boards—but drag shows in elementary schools? Totally fine.
Veterans and the homeless slept in tents while illegal immigrants were bussed into hotels on taxpayer dollars.
Law-abiding citizens lost their jobs for refusing experimental mandates, while criminals were let loose in cities like it was The Purge.
This isn’t theory. This was our reality.
They say they’re fighting for “the people,” but let’s be honest:
We are the people. And we’re the ones they keep trying to silence.
Bottom Line
The left doesn’t defend democracy—they redefine it to suit their agenda. They’re trying to convince Trump voters that he’s dragging the country in the wrong direction—when in reality, he’s doing exactly what they elected him to do. The real issue? The left can’t handle losing. That’s why every time the vote doesn’t go their way, we don’t get civil discourse—we get protests, riots, and threats dressed up as “activism.”
They don’t want open debate. They want obedience.
They don’t want fairness. They want control.
Democracy only matters when they win.
Podcast is Coming Back
The podcast is making a return—stronger, snarkier, and more unapologetic. I’ve figured out where I stand, and spoiler alert: it’s not with the party that forgot who they are and hopes you won’t notice. If you’re still figuring it out, that’s okay. Ask questions. Challenge everything. But most of all—stay loud.
Quick Question for You:
Have you changed parties or political views in the last few years? If so, why? Hit reply—I actually read every message.
Hi Barry,
Thanks for taking the time to respond—genuinely. Thoughtful disagreement is how we actually get somewhere, and I respect that you're willing to dive in.
That said, I think some of your pushback kind of proves my original point. The Democratic Party says a lot of the right things—but when you hold them up to their own standards, the inconsistencies are hard to ignore. And when the response is “What are you talking about?” or “That’s a bumper sticker,” well... that’s not exactly a rebuttal.
Let’s unpack it:
Conservative students silenced?
Yes—repeatedly. Just ask FIRE (the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression), which has documented multiple cases of conservative speakers being shouted down, uninvited, or denied club recognition. College campuses are hardly neutral ground anymore.
Christian-owned businesses targeted?
Masterpiece Cakeshop and Baronelle Stutzman ring a bell? Both were dragged through the legal system for declining to use their artistic expression in ways that violated their religious beliefs. Agree or not, they were targeted because of their faith.
“Dissenters and the unpopular”?
This covers the growing list of people deplatformed, demonetized, or canceled for having the wrong opinion—on gender, COVID, the election, or even comedy. Ask comedians like Dave Chappelle or journalists like Bari Weiss and Matt Taibbi who’ve been run out of spaces they helped build.
Biden DOJ going after parents?
This isn’t speculative. The National School Boards Association asked the administration to look into “domestic terrorism,” and Merrick Garland issued a memo directing the FBI to get involved. That’s intimidation by design.
Obamacare = transparency?
I agree healthcare is complicated. But “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” was a promise that didn’t pan out. Millions of Americans lost coverage or paid more. That’s not a bumper sticker—that’s personal for a lot of people.
COVID mandates and bodily autonomy?
You can support public health without pretending mandates didn’t go too far. People lost jobs, businesses, and access to services because they made a personal medical decision. That’s not a “God issue,” that’s a civil liberties issue.
Late-term abortion celebrated?
Yes, they are rare. But states like New York and California removed restrictions up to birth. What’s disturbing is how mainstream it has become to treat abortion as a symbol of empowerment instead of a deeply serious decision.
Hunter’s laptop = disinformation?
Nope. The FBI had it in 2019. Big Tech and the intel community dismissed it right before an election. It was real, and the suppression was coordinated. That matters, whether people want to admit it or not.
Clinton emails vs. Trump/Biden docs?
Hillary used private servers, deleted 33,000 subpoenaed emails, and smashed phones. Biden had classified docs in his garage and office for years. Trump was raided for resisting a subpoena—Biden was not. The double standard is plain as day.
Federalizing elections / Court-packing?
Let’s be clear—filling existing SCOTUS seats isn’t “packing.” Proposing to add seats (as many Democrats did) is. And bills like H.R.1 aimed to shift election control from states to the federal government. That’s a fact.
Social media censorship?
Twitter before Musk had direct lines with the FBI and DHS to flag content. That’s state-influenced censorship, not private moderation. What Musk does now may ruffle feathers, but it’s not being coordinated by government agencies.
Non-citizens voting?
San Francisco, NYC, and Washington D.C. have allowed non-citizens to vote in local elections. So no, it’s not false.
Election questioning = “insurrectionist”?
Funny how challenging 2020 is treason, but 2016 was “resistance.” You can’t rewrite the rules every cycle and expect people not to notice.
Barry, I know we won’t agree on every point. But I’m not tossing out bumper stickers—I’m pointing out patterns. Patterns that should concern anyone, no matter where they land politically.
I’ll keep bringing the facts. Hope you do too.
Jennifer - I’d say most of the accusations included here are extreme lefty. Just like saying that the KKK might be extreme right. Here’s a quick response to some of this. Responses in all caps to separate them from your original ones:
1. Equity for All… Unless You’re Conservative
Conservative students are silenced. NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN HERE. WHAT EXAMPLES DO YOU HAVE? I’M GUESSING YOU’RE THINKING CONSERVATIVE STUDENTS’ VOICES ARE SHUT DOWN ON LIBERAL CAMPUSES? STILL, IT’S AN ACCUSATION WITHOUT EVIDENCE.
Christian-owned businesses? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Targeted.
Anyone who challenges woke doctrine? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?Canceled—immediately.
2. Human Rights... Except for the Unborn, Dissenters, or the Unpopular. NOT SURE ABOUT DISSENTERS AND THE UNPOPULAR, WHATEVER THAT IS. REGARDING THE UNBORN, I DON’T LIKE ABORTION, BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE A WOMEN’S RIGHT TO DECIDE. A RECENT PEW POLL SAYS THAT 63% OF CITIZENS SUPPORT A WOMAN’S RIGHT TO CHOOSE. NEVERTHELESS, IT’S A CONTENTIOUS ISSUE, I AGREE.
Biden DOJ went after parents at school board meetings. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
COVID mandates overruled basic bodily autonomy. GOD ISSUE HERE. THAT’S THE BALANCE BETWEEN PUBLIC SAFETY AND INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. COVID SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED DIFFERENTLY, BUT STILL WITH APPROPRIATE RULES, NOT LETTING THE VIRUS RUN AMUCK.
Meanwhile, late-term abortion is celebrated as empowerment. NOT TRUE. THESE ARE EXTREMELY RARE. CHEAP SHOT. ONLY DONE WHEN MOTHERS LIFE IS IN DANGER.
3. Healthcare for All... But Not Transparency
Obamacare passed on lies: “Keep your doctor” anyone?
Premiums skyrocketed for the middle class. HEALTHCARE IS A TOUGH SUBJECT. SEEMS LIKE CONSERVATIVES ARE OK WITH SOME PEOPLE HAVING HEALTH CARE AND OTHERS NOT. WOULD BE A BETTER CONVERSATION WITH LOTS OF DETAIL, NOT A BUMPER STICKER ACCUSATION.
4. Climate Justice... Unless You’re a Democrat Celebrity
John Kerry, Al Gore, and Hollywood fly private jets to climate summits while lecturing you about your gas stove. AGREE, DEMS GO TO GATE WITH CLIMATE ACTION. THERE’S LOTS OF GOOD IDEAS OUT THERE.
5. Government Transparency... Like Hunter’s Laptop? THAT IS ANOTHER BUMPER STICKER. HOW ABOUT TRUMP ENRICHING HIMSELF WITH BILLIONS IN CRYPTO AND PLANES, ETC? IS THAT OK WITH CONSERVATIVES?
Suppressed. Buried. Discredited. Later verified—no apologies.
Democrats and Big Tech coordinated to silence it before the 2020 election. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
6. Justice Reform... Unless It Involves Themselves
Hillary Clinton: Deleted 33,000 emails under subpoena—nothing. HEGSETH COMMUNICATED WAR PLANS ON SIGNAL FOR GOD’S SAKE! TO A REPORTER NO LESS.
Biden: Classified documents in a garage—shrug.
Trump: Raided, indicted, investigated non-stop. HERE’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRUMP AND BIDEN. BIDEN RETURNED THE DOCS WHEN FOUND. TRUMP HID AND FOUGHT RETURNING THEM UNTIL THE FBI CAME IN.
7. Defending Democracy... By Redefining It
Attempted to federalize elections. WHAT?
Wanted to pack the Supreme Court. THAT’S WHAT CONSERVATIVES HAVE DONE!
Pushed censorship of opposing views on social media. THAT’S WHAT MUSK IS DOING ON TWITTER FOR CONSERVATIVES!
Labeled political opponents “threats to democracy.” ARE YOU QUOTING TRUMP HERE? THAT’S WHAT HE’S SAID!
8. Voting Rights... Unless You Vote the ‘Wrong’ Way
They claim to protect voting rights—but only when the results go their way. NOT TRUE
Oppose voter ID laws (because showing ID is now “oppression”). VOTER ID LAWS ARE GOOD WHEN THEY MAKE SENSE AND DON’T EXCLUDE.
Support non-citizens voting in local elections. FALSE
And if you question an election? You’re branded an “insurrectionist.” WON’T EVEN BOTHER WITH THIS ONE
Unless it’s 2016—then it was just “brave resistance.”
BUTTON LINE: CHECK YOUR FACTS, AND STOP THE BUMPER STICKER ACCUSATIONS. IT’S NOT HELPING HEALTHY DEBATE.
